Good Guide

March 24, 2009

I stumbled upon the Good Guide today, an online site that rates products on the health, environmental and social impact of products and companies.  It rates over 70,000 products from food and toys to personal care and cleaning products. Each rating is on a scale of 1-10 and they give details as to why the rating exists.  For example, my favorite boxed Mac and Cheese from Annie’s was only rated an 8 because it has a “terrible” sodium content ( something I hadn’t thought about ).

Other features perfect for moms:

  • shopping list functionality – add your favorite products to your list and print out for your next trip
  • Good Guide Mobile – Good Guide at your fingertips on your iPhone
  • all-in-one – find all your household products at one site instead of searching personal care products at one site, food at another, toys at another, etc.
  • search by priority – narrow search results by your top priorities ( low in sugar, fragrance free, animal friendly, lead free, etc. )
  • ingredient list – what’s REALLY in this stuff our kids eat everyday?  ( apparently WAY too much salt in my case )

Currently, the Good Guide has 5000 food products that children commonly eat but they say to expect tens of thousands additional food products to be added over the next month.

Congrats to Jessica from Oregon for winning the CleanWell Hand Sanitizer sweepstakes – it’s on its way Jessica!  Look for more giveaways soon!
