Earth Hour is TONIGHT!

March 27, 2010

Today, you can join the WORLD by taking part in Earth Hour.  At 8:30 pm (in whatever time zone you are in) – turn off your lights for just 1 HOUR.  Government facilities, national landmarks, museums, organizations and celebrities are all joining the movement for action on climate change.

It’s one simple way to talk to your kids about the importance of taking care of the resources we have.  Make it fun by getting out flashlights to play hide and seek or board games.  My kids will be in bed by then so I plan to light some candles and have a glass of wine.  Aaaah.

Earth Hour TONIGHT

March 28, 2009

Remember, Earth Hour is tonight at 8:30 pm, for 1 hour, whatever time zone you are located in!  2,712 cities, towns and municipalities in 83 countries are already committed.  Dozens of celebrities are promoting the event and over 8000 schools, 20,000 businesses, 6000 organizations and even The Great Pyramids – and that’s just who’s signed up at the website.   Either way, you don’t need to sign up to commit to 1 hour of darkness.  Take up your own green flag and turn off the lights tonight.

Earth Hour

March 17, 2009

This Saturday, March 28, no matter what city, no matter what country, the planet is turning out the lights!  At 8:30PM, your local time, turn off the lights for 1 hour.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In December 2009 world leaders meet in Copenhagen to agree on a post-Kyoto policy for tackling climate change. One billion people voting with their light switch during Earth Hour will create a powerful mandate for our leaders to take strong and decisive action on climate change in Copenhagen.

If you have kids at home, make it fun by getting flashlights out and playing hide-and-seek or board games.  If you’ve put the little ones to bed or you don’t have kids, plan a romantic night lit by candles.  I plan to sit outside ( barring any downpours ) and check out the stars.  In a big city, you don’t get to see the stars that much.

What will you do during Earth Hour?
